About us

Thierry's was founded in 1981 by entrepreneur, Thierry Cabanne, who was one of the first to recognize the potential power and influence of supermarkets in the world of wine. Over the last 25 years, this dynamic company has grown from a small team of people selling a few wines into a modern, thriving company employing a knowledgeable, energetic team of 42. Thierry's is the UK's single largest importer of French wines, with an estimated 25% of French wine sales in the UK off-trade. Thierry's total sales account for over 5% of the total UK off-trade market and in the last five years, value sales have grown by over 90%.

Thierry's portfolio has also moved with the times and the company now sources wines from all the major wine-producing countries and is constantly investing in building its portfolio of brands, identifying any gaps. Thierry's works with around 100 producers worldwide but is particularly strong in France and South Africa. Many of Thierry's relationships with producers are long-standing and represent strong partnerships. Thierry's has an open and honest relationship with its producers. People choose to do business with Thierry's because of its professional but creative and flexible approach as well as its unique culture, best demonstrated by the famous Thierry's lunches, prepared daily by resident chef, Anita and enjoyed by the whole team in the company dining room, in true, convivial French style.

Thierry's is best known for its strength in the off-trade, in particular with the multiple grocers and multiple specialists and this will remain a key focus for Thierry's. This year has also seen the opening of many new routes to market for Thierry's, as it explores opportunities in new sectors. In fact we have recently recruited a new team to concentrate on these new opportunities on behalf of our producers.

Thierry's has been hugely instrumental in building the country's fifth largest French brand, Caves Saint Pierre Préference, which also features in the UK's overall top 50 wine brands. Thierry's has also helped to build the UK's seventh largest Champagne brand, Nicolas Feuillatte and the country's ninth largest sparkling wine brand, La Marca. Thierry's also owns the successful Radcliffe's brand.

Although the company has grown and changed dramatically over the years, Thierry Cabanne's legacy still remains today. Thierry was a champion of the consumer who believed that good quality wine should be available to everyone at the right price. The launch of the Thierry Cabanne Champion Great Value Wine Awards at the International Wine Challenge Awards dinner last year reflects this. Thierry's also launched the Thierry Cabanne Scholarship Award last year, offering a WSET Diploma student (outside the wine trade) the unique opportunity to learn about the wine trade at first hand.
