This wine is the ultimate 'pick you up'. It is so fresh, has a delicate sparkle and a just a hint of sweetness. It has gorgeous aromas and flavours of citrus fruits, pears, Muscat grapes and apple blossom too. The added benefit is that it is only 5% alcohol! We predict a stampede for this new style of wine.
Doña Dominga Gran Reserva Petit Verdot 2009
Available in Tesco
Chile is sometimes unfairly dubbed the “Volvo of the wine industry” because its wines are so reliable and are a safe choice. We all like reliability and consistency, but sometimes we like to experiment and try something new. Casa Silva, the family winery behind the Doña Dominga wines are pioneers in the Colchagua valley, planting in new 'extreme' areas and working with a wide variety of grape varieties. This Petit Verdot is a stunning, rich, full bodied red with flavours of cassis and liquorice spice.
Guignard Graves Blanc 2010
Available in Sainsbury's
Run by three enigmatic brothers, Dominique, Pascal and Bruno, Vignobles Guignard is the largest producer of high quality Château red and white wines from the Graves area in Bordeaux. The brothers manage and oversee all winemaking for the Château le Bernet in particular, a renowned picturesque estate situated on the highest hilltops of the Graves region with unobstructed views of the sun-drenched landscape of the stunning Brion Valley. Chateau le Bernet Belleve Graves is a fantastic example of what Decanter has described as a "new standard of elegance and finesse" set by the Guignard brothers. A blend of 50% Semillon, 40% Sauvignon and 10% Muscadelle, this superbly dry, lemony white reveals hints of spring flowers, orange peel and a subtle touch of smoke. Medium-bodied, rich and flavoursome, this is a dazzling example of white Bordeaux.
Chateau Soucherie Anjou Rouge
Available in Tesco
This carefully hand-harvested wine comes from Chateau Soucherie, located on schistose hills near the town of Beaulieu Sur Layon, in the Loire Valley. Made at the hands of the talented Thibaud Boudignan, this wine has been matured for nine months on the lees to ensure optimum extraction of the flavours. It has red fruit aromas such as raspberries and strawberries with a touch of liquorice and maintains the intense dark ruby colour. On the palate, a supple racy light texture scoots across the tongue. Although the intensity of fruit is light, this wine has big, silky tannins. These tannins are what make the Anjou Rouge perfect for crispy chicken or in fact any food from the grill.
